Thailand Prepares to Host 2026 MotoGP Season Opener in Buri Ram
BANGKOK – Thailand is set to host the opening round of the 2026 MotoGP season next month, with the Thai Grand Prix scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 1 at the Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram. A pre-season test will be held on February 21–22. The event marks the seventh time the country will stage a MotoGP race and the second consecutive year it launches the premier motorcycle racing season.

At a press conference held Thursday, organizers unveiled the official ThaiGP trophy, underscoring the event’s growing prestige. Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, emphasized that hosting the season opener reflects the country’s proven capacity for organizing world-class sporting events. He also highlighted the significant economic impact expected from the race, projecting an influx of over 25 billion Thai Baht from sports tourism and related activities.

Tanaisiri Chanwitthayarom, Managing Director of the Chang International Circuit, outlined plans to enhance the spectator experience through an expanded fan zone and new interactive activities. Since its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2018, the Thai Grand Prix has become a staple of the championship. A recently renewed agreement ensures that the circuit will remain on the MotoGP schedule through 2031, solidifying Thailand’s position as a key destination in international motorsport.
